The GCHS DECA club attended the 2015 International Career Development Conference in Orlando, FL this past week. The conference was attended by over eighteen-thousand high school students, advisors, alumni, and business professionals from around the world. This event allowed DECA members to demonstrate their college and career knowledge and skills by participating in DECA’s Competitive Events Program. DECA members also participated in DECA’s Emerging Leader Series in order to attain 21st Century Skills in the areas of collaboration, communication, critical thinking and creativity.
Students in attendance from GCHS were Abigail Joseph, Addison Borlace, Jasmin Mance, Deona Hasimllari, Kevin Nelson, Sarah Payne, Sarah Moore, and Brandy Hanover. The highlight of the competition for GCHS was that The Cougar's Corner was named a Gold Certified School Store for the fifth year in a row. This award was given to Addison Borlace, Jasmin Mance, and Deona Hasimllari for their hard work on the School Based Enterprise (SBE) project. This is a national award signifying that GCHS meets the highest standard for the Retail Marketing Lab. Overall, GCHS DECA members displayed the highest level of professionalism during the entire week. Mrs. Bommarito and I were honored to have been involved in such a prestigious event, with such dedicated students.
